Wearing Spectacles At An Early Age

Some children start wearing spectacles at a very early age and one must understand that they need to wear spectacles that do not arise due to some disease but it is merely a corrective measure. In today’s world where kids are mostly surrounded by screens whether it is TV, electronic gadgets like computers or mobile, it is impossible to safeguard your kid’s eyes against the harmful rays. But when it comes to younger children, sometimes the weak eyesight may not be caused by just long exposure to screens. It may be due to other reasons like a genetic defect or deficiencies in the child’s body.

And thus, there is no cure for it. Medicines will not make it better, nor will preventive actions. Yes, lessening exposure to screens can help save it from getting worse but it won’t correct the eyesight. So do not blame the kids if it happens and wearing glasses is the simplest solution for an eyesight defect. It does not hamper your child’s ability in any way.

2.It Could be Genetic

Kids can also have an error in eyes due to a genetic defect or any problem during birth. Though it is rare for a child under the age of 8 to wear spectacles, some children have to start using spectacles as young as 2 years old. Children who are the age of 10 or above usually adjust to wearing spectacles easily.

But there are some things that parents must make their child understand so wearing glasses at an early age does not impact their self-esteem:

  1. Wearing glasses does not make them different or less than any other child.
  2. If someone teases them about wearing glasses, you should teach your child how they should react in such a situation. They must learn how to face such bullying.
  3. Teach your child not to feel guilty or upset about having an error. It does not make them inferior and moreover, it is something that they have no control over.
  4. Teach them how to keep their glasses clean and when they must take the glasses off and when they should not.
  5. Even if your child does not wear glasses, teach them how to act or behave around a person who does wear glasses and why they should never tease or be mean to another child.

Spectacles are nothing to be ashamed about or worry about. Societal myth and stigma with glasses s already breaking and one must contribute to it.
