Taking about COVID-19 to your kids

conversation

Now kids are innocent and most of the kids get scared easily and you don’t want your kids to live in fear of this COVID-19. So there is something you need to take care of while telling them about COVID-19.

Gather information

The first step and the most important step to talk to your kids about COVID-19 is that you gather as much information as you can about this virus. There are WHO social media pages on Twitter and other social media as well. Make sure to check them and stay updated with every important piece of information about COVID-19.

Explain to them the situation

Once you have gathered all the information tell your kids about the things that they need to know. Tell them how it spread and where the virus came from and all other information. Although make sure that you don’t talk about the deaths that occurred during the past months of COVID-19. As that can make them scared and from that point, they can be living in constant fear of the COVID-19.

Talk in a calm voice

This is scientifically proven that kids often feel afraid when they see their parents panicking out. So, make sure whenever your kids are in front of you or they are listening to you talk about the COVID-19. It’s really important for you as a parent to maintain your calm so they will not get worried and scared about this dangerous disease.

If your kids bring the topic of death’s

There is a high possibility that your kids are going to find out that people are dying. They can hear it from the news or while talking to their friends some can tell them about all the death that occurred. When that happens and your kids come to you saying, am I going to die as well? Then you need to tell them that no kid has died from COVID-19 till now and comfort them with all the information that will make them feel secure and safe.

Practice the proper way of washing your hands

Like we all know that doctors have said that you need to wash your hands properly from every angle for at least about 20 seconds. So you can teach your kids the proper way of washing their hands when they come from outside or playing and especially before eating. Also, tell them the benefits of hand wash during COVID-19 so they will understand the importance.

Practice social distancing

Even doctors had told me that currently, the only cure for this COVID-19 is that everyone maintains some distance from people. The best option is to stay at home and maintain social distancing from everyone for your health and their health as well.

Tell them the importance of staying at home

Now, of course, there will be times when your kids want to go to the friend’s house who lives just close by. So as a parent you need to make sure that they don’t do anything like that and if they are still going out make sure to stop them and in a calm tone make them understand the importance of social distancing.

Tell them more about virtual socializing

Even though kids are more likely to know about how to communicate through phone and other technology. Even though they are kids, they are most likely to get worried about the people they know including their friends, family, and other relatives. So talk to all relatives, friends and other family members with your kids. This will maintain a good relationship between everyone and it will help your kids to feel more comfortable knowing that everyone is safe and healthy.
